Class of 2006 Overview

Message From the Executive Director

June 8, 2006 marked the successful conclusion of the third annual Pioneer Student Leadership Academy. Conducted on the campus of the University of Kentucky, and hosted by PiE Alliance Partner, National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE), we continued to build on our annual theme “building tomorrow’s leaders, today”. We graduated 32 new interns (16 males/16 females) assigned each a mentor and put them into the Pioneer mentoring network.

PS LA 2006 also concluded phase one (pilot program) of our two phased plan to put at least 100 college students into the Pioneer pipeline by 2006 and to formalize our mentoring program. We were successful. We plan to attract more and more quality students and mentors and build on the successes and lessons learned from earlier academies held at the University of Houston and North Carolina A&T State University. Our efforts should be evident in PSLA 2007 (June 4–14), planned for The George Washington University in Washington DC and hosted by alliance partners, DuPont and Enlightened Inc.
